Stephen Menzie

Originally from Liverpool, Stephen now resides in southern Sweden. He is an experienced birder, who has travelled extensively across the UK and the wider Western Palearctic, and an enthusiastic guide, whose philosophy is that tours should be as much about enjoying the experience as they are about seeing every bird.

He has a varied CV, which reflects his broad range of skills and interests. This includes eight years working for BirdGuides/NatureGuides, where he was lead producer for the Collins Bird Guide app; two years working for The Sound Approach; and three years as manager of Falsterbo Bird Observatory. Stephen is currently editor of British Birds journal, as well as a member of the British Birds Rarities Committee. He holds a particular interest in moult, ageing and identification – and anybody on one of Stephen’s tours will attest to the occasional interesting snippet on at least one of those subjects being dropped in at appropriate moments!

Stephen is lucky enough to have some of northern Europe’s finest bird migration on his doorstep and, not surprisingly, much of his autumn is spent enjoying raptor and finch migration at Falsterbo. When he’s not birding locally in southern Sweden, he can often be found somewhere hot and sandy – the deserts of Morocco and Oman are some of Stephen’s favourite birding destinations, and locations that he’s visited on multiple occasions.

Stephen leads our Sweden in Autumn and Oman tours.
