Enjoy a short break to remember in the glorious Scottish Highlands as we seek out 15 of the rarest Scottish birds and mammals! Obviously our itinerary is weather dependant, but even with showers you can reasonably expect to see approx 70 bird and 10 mammal species in three days – a feast of wildlife!

Capercaillie, Black Grouse, Crested Tit, Golden Eagle, Red Grouse, Red Deer, Roe Deer, Mountain Hare, Grey Seal, Common Seal, Bottle-nosed Dolphin, Red-throated Diver, Red Kite, Red Squirrel and Scottish (Parrot) Crossbill are our targets!

Outline Itinerary

DAY 1

Arrival, welcome and dinner. Don't forget our courtesy collect and return service to Aviemore!

DAY 2

An early start (about 6.30am) to see Black Grouse at traditional lekking sites. The birds return as early as September to establish pecking order for next spring. Later we travel to local Caledonian pine forest where Capercaillie, Crested Tit, Scottish (Parrot) Crossbill, Roe Deer and Red Squirrel can all be found.

DAY 3

Today we travel deep into the heart of a Highland glen, where Red Deer can be heard bellowing at the rut, with Mountain Hare scampering across the broken scree slopes to entertain whilst we search for magnificent Golden Eagle overhead. With lots of young birds on the wing, November is a good time to see these superb birds. Red Grouse should also be on the agenda today!

DAY 4

A complete contrast as we visit the Moray Coast, hoping to see Bottle-nosed Dolphin, both Grey Seal and Common Seal and Red-throated Diver on the waters. Red Kite are now re-established in this area, and these lovely raptors often wheel directly over our heads.

DAY 5

Breakfast and depaer. Don't forget our courtesy service to transport links in Aviemore,
