What do we mean by ‘The Heatherlea Way’?
Heatherlea Overseas Adventures offer the same relaxed Heatherlea way of doing things that so many of you enjoy in Scotland, and are often led by at least one of the team who make our Scottish holidays special. We aim to give you great wildlife watching, capable Leaders and above all informal and relaxed days which are great fun.
Perhaps the main points are these;
- How ‘birdy’ do you like your holiday? Some operators make a point of adding as many birds as possible to a list, and if that means very long days or rushing from site to site, then so be it. Heatherlea are very keen to help you see as much wildlife as possible, but we don’t do intensive birding. Early starts are usually optional, and in hot and/or humid places we often take a break if things get sticky or uncomfortable. We work hard to find the target wildlife, but we prefer to make sure that everyone sees each bird or animal well, not just a quick tick and off we go for the next one. Don’t get us wrong, we are very keen and always target a very thorough job. We know that sometimes our birdlists are longer than our competitors on the same holiday, but we also know that our kind of customer doesn’t want to be rushing around all the time.
- We take care of you. That means good quality accommodation (almost always en-suite) wherever possible, good food often with a real flavour of the country we are visiting, the most convenient flights available, good local transport and local guides in most destinations. Ideal for those who want carefully designed itineraries at affordable prices.
- Key support services are in place for you, with our own office, our own ATOL licence and the insurances you need to travel with confidence. Your money is safe with Heatherlea, and we have never yet made a surcharge to any agreed holiday price. These things are important, though not universally available, so if comparing please ask questions.
Above all, our love of wildlife and sharing it with you is always our top priority, as we enjoy rewarding holidays around the globe.
Don't forget that Heatherlea are professional hoteliers, running over 40 holidays every year from our company-owned three-star Hotel in Scotland, and we have been operating for twenty full seasons. We know exactly what to look for, and aim to meet the standards required wherever we go. Our careful and caring approach is bringing more and more birders flocking to our Overseas Adventures. All Overseas Adventure detail is on the website or if you prefer you can request an ‘EXTRA’ pack with detail in written form – see below. To book you pay a deposit, after which we confirm details and send you ‘General Information’ about your holiday. This includes information about flights, airport hotels, details of overseas accommodation including hotel websites, health and other information you might need whilst abroad (telephone, currency, medical services etc), and sections headed ‘before you leave’ ‘what to bring’, ‘during the journey’, ‘on arrival’ and ‘in the field’ – you will be very well informed!
You are welcome to ask questions, our dedicated office team are available six days every week, and specials requirements such as dietary needs, bespoke travel and much more can be organised for you.
Heatherlea comply with relevant travel industry legislation, including the requirements set out in Statutory Instrument 1992 No 3288, ‘The Package Travel, Package Holidays and Package Tours Regulations 1992. All holidays including flights are covered by ATOL legislation and our licence ATOL 6113, granted by the Civil Aviation Authority. Your holiday money is protected by a bond, which will refund all payments and arrange for your transport home in the very unlikely event of our insolvency. Don’t forget our tremendous ‘Worldbird’ scheme which gives cash savings if you holiday in Scotland as well as overseas.
